I have built a 12ft by 4ft flat bottom boat out of plywood and wondering what is the best way to go about painting or varnishing not to worried which i do.

Ok. before i ask my question, let me set the stage so everyone knows what i am trying to accomplish here. my 12 year old son wants the 2 of us to.... New plywood boat - not permanantly moored - single pack system. above & below the waterline: ensure surface is clean and free from oil, grease and other contaminants.. I've got a (16ft) plywood skinned runabout, and want to epoxy paint the hull. old paint is falling off in sheets and taking the smooth surface of the ply with it.
